MISC collaborated with the Banyan Foundation for a second time to work with Heart Of Los Angeles (HOLA) for a short doc about HOLA’s efforts to unite partners with youth and their families to transform communities. Directed by USC Alum John Berardo and produced by MISC Executive Director Michael Taylor, the film featured volunteers and staff from both the HOLA and Banyan organizations discussing the value that HOLA brings to families in Los Angeles.

HOLA provides underserved youth with free, exceptional programs in academics, arts and athletics within a nurturing environment, empowering them to develop their potential, pursue their education and strengthen their communities. Led by CEO Tony Brown, HOLA runs programs ranging from academic development to artistic enrichment for kids in a safe, nurturing environment.

The mission of the The Banyan Foundation Youth Leadership Council is to promote sustainable community improvements through youth leadership, philanthropy and social enterprise.  Lead by President Brian Werdesheim, the Youth Leadership Council focuses on engaging with grant-making for organizations that make sustainable, measurable and scalable change in LA. They prioritize youth leadership with adult mentorship, fostering philanthropy as a way of life.  In addition to identifying individuals and organizations making an important social impact in Los Angeles, the Youth Leadership Council builds social enterprises designed to address significant social or environmental problems in LA County.

The film is currently in post production and will screen later this summer.
